Scotch shavings...
Mel Gibson with that fatarse Braveheart sword hacking away at his facial hair and screaming freeeeeeeeedddddddddooooooooooooommm (that's why he wore the blue face paint in that movie, to hide the hideous scars that this foolish method of grooming inevitably produces).

there's loads of lovely life here, your writing is really such a pleasure to read a. i remember subtly altering old sagan and lomberg texts with buck rogers wizardry a number of years ago while waiting for customers to walk in to my remote bookshop. one guy, from the australian ballet, eventually did walked in and brought many of the pages - that's what you get from an age of specialisation. love to you and nick. we're thinking of you both as you venture.

Kate,

So lovely to hear from you! Yes, I remember, it was just before I left and I remember noting that you were involved in something so far up my alley it was pervy and wonderful -- but we never got the chance to hang properly so I could find out more ... it all looks wonderfully interesting, when I get home later tonight I will trawl thru the site with greater precision.

God I wish I'd seen the Voyager pres, it's up there with one of the most interesting and delightful pieces of information I carry around with me, this idea of the golden phonograph with lusty Sagan-inspired brainwaves.

Lotsa love to you, A

Astrid, Aden delivered this beautifully and it was beautiful. A little cult of personality sprung up around you in your absence. After Aden read it a guy asked, "so who IS astrid? can you tell us a little bit about her?" I very nearly hollered "She brews!!" but restrained myself.

And and, did I ever tell you I spent a month or so working with Jon Lomberg this year? This is he:

Aside from blogging on 10days, he did an amazing presentation during Science Week about the Voyager gold record. Really moving. He showed the pictures that were included to represent Australia (he emailed them to me btw - pretty cool!) and also played the music that went up with the record as well. they only had 5 weeks or so to put it together (I think there's a book about it, called sth like Murmurs from earth?) and they had to make fast decisions about how to represent humanity to aliens, decisions that might have otherwise taken years. In all the pics they sent, they decided not to send a picture of the mushroom cloud or modern warfare.

This one is cool too. At least I think so.
